Under Hong Kong's Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS), beverage cartons are being integrated into a mandatory "market-led" recycling system. Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) developed by Cornerstone support Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) on Plastic Beverage Containers and Beverage Cartons in Hong Kong, serve as automated collection points, verifying, compacting, and rewarding consumers for returning clean beverage containers to drive higher recycling rates.
To ensure efficient and high-quality collection, our RVMs utilize an advanced automated scanning system equipped with barcodes scanning, weight sensors and IoT sensors. This verifies that each container (typically ranging from 100ml to 2L) meets the accepted criteria and is locally sold packaging, while an integrated clean recycling check and anti-fault system prompts users to empty and rinse containers to prevent contamination.
Once verified, the machine's built-in auto-sorting and compaction function automatically separates beverage cartons from plastic bottles and compress them to minimize storage space. Upon a successful deposit, the platform drives public engagement by issuing instant financial incentives (such as $0.1 HKD rebate per container) directly via e-payment networks like Octopus or non-monetary rewards through dedicated apps like ecobuddy, creating a seamless, closed-loop recycling ecosystem.
