Getting ready for Hong Kong’s Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) for plastic beverage containers (PBCs) and beverage cartons in 2026.

RVM offers an alternative way to recycle plastic beverage bottles in an efficient, convenient, and incentivizing way. Preparing to introduce the PRS on Plastic Beverage Containers and Beverage Cartons, the newly introduced RVM in this trial program is set to accept tetra paks (beverage cartons) with capacity ranged from 100ml to 2L 🧃🧃🧃

Each user can return up to 30 tetra paks each day, and for each return, user will receive HKD 0.1 per carton directly on their Octopus card. To motivate user to participate in clean recycling, this new pilot program initiated by EPD encourages user to simply cut off one corner of the carton and rinse it before return without any deformation. ♻️

Type Collection

Milk cartons and aluminium foil cartons can be accepted for recycling. User is encouraged to rinse the recyclables and empty the content before recycling.

Tips for returning beverage carton:

• No Deformation
• Keep barcode intact
• Only accept products sold locally
• Volume between 100ml and 2L
• Empty beverage carton

Return Process

Clean recycling steps for tetra pak recycling at RVM operated by Cornerstone Smart Recycling:

1. Empty beverage carton, remove straw and packaging
2. Cut open the top corner of beverage carton, rinse and clean
3. Barcode facing upwards, insert clean beverage cartons
4. Cash rebate (HKD $0.1 per beverage carton)
