Food Waste Smart Bins in the Hong Kong International Airport

Food Waste Smart Bins in the Airport

The Highlights

Every Meal Matters

Hong Kong International Airport operates around the clock, connecting people, cultures, and goods every hour of every day. But with relentless round-the-clock operations comes a steady generation of food waste—whether it is a home-cooked lunch, a quick takeaway between shifts, or meals consumed during hectic airport duties.

Every meal leaves a footprint. Yet, when food goes unconsumed, proper source separation can transform what would otherwise be landfill waste into valuable resources.

Making Sustainability Accessible

To support the people who keep our skies moving, we are thrilled to share a meaningful milestone in our green journey. At Hong Kong International Airport, food waste generated in staff operational areas can now be easily separated at source through two newly deployed food waste smart bins, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Placing these smart bins right where staff need them ensures that sustainable habits fit seamlessly into demanding work schedules, making eco-conscious action accessible at any hour.

Small Operational Steps, Significant Impact

By diverting food waste from general waste streams and enabling proper resource recovery, we are helping create a more circular and sustainable future.

One meal. One action. One step closer to a greener airport.

Because every action counts.
