Across student halls and staff residences, we deployed 19 SmartClassify food waste bins. The objective wasn’t just physical installation; it was deep software alignment. Our systems successfully integrated with the Environmental Protection Department’s GREEN$ Electronic Participation Incentive Scheme.

By scanning their GREEN$ app, users instantly open the lid of the bin, deposit food waste, and receive reward points automatically. This incentive-driven framework transformed a daily chore into a frictionless digital routine, setting a baseline for user adoption.

The New Frontier: Pioneering Sustainability in Light Public Housing

Building on this technical success, we are delighted to share our latest milestone: deploying our smart recycling framework across the Hong Kong SAR Government’s brand-new Light Public Housing (LPH) flagships.

For context, LPH is a massive, innovative government-led program launched to rapidly build modular, high-quality transitional communities for families awaiting permanent housing. Because these developments are built from the ground up using advanced Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), they present a unique opportunity to embed smart technology into a neighborhood’s DNA from day one.

Our newest deployments span two major LPH flagship sites:

This represents an entirely new application reference for Cornerstone. By introducing smart IoT recycling infrastructure to transitional housing, we are proving that modern sustainability solutions are scalable, agile, and essential to all tiers of urban planning.

Behind the Tech: Engineering for Dense Urban Environments

Our SmartClassify systems are purpose-built IoT assets designed to resolve the traditional operational headaches of food waste management:

• Hygiene-First Engineering: Built-in ozone sterilizers and pest repellents eliminate odor and sanitation concerns before they start.
• Touch-Free UX: Zero-contact, sensor-activated lids operate via a quick QR code scan, ensuring a hygienic and user-friendly experience.
• Real-Time Data Platform: Every entry is weighed and logged. The bins use a live data platform to transmit fullness levels directly to cloud dashboards.

All organic waste collected through our network is diverted from landfills and routed directly to local organic waste recycling facilities like O·PARK, where it is transformed into renewable energy and compost.
